Addison-based Mary Kay is switching to a virtual race this year! Join the MK5K to run 3.1 miles anywhere in Addison you want, from October 1-31. Run, jog or walk anywhere of your choosing, at your speed, and time it on your own. Afterward, you can record your official race results. Make sure to wear your favorite shade of pink! Proceeds will be donated to the Mary Kay Foundation, which is dedicated to helping women with cancer and women plagued by domestic violence. All registered participants’ race shirts and swag will be mailed to you after the event. Register at mk5k.com.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Texas Chapter’s Walk to Defeat ALS! It’s a virtual race this year, which means you can walk (or run) any distance you want with other racers from around the country at 11 a.m. October 31. As a bonus, any participant who races $100 will get a free T-shirt! Each registered team will also get a Walk Day kit filled with swag, such as a yard sign, balloons, sidewalk chalk, temporary tattoos, Spotify playlist and more. Funds raised will benefit the ALS Association, which works to discover treatments and a cure for ALS, as well as to serve, advocate for and empower people affected by ALS. Operation Kindness is hosting the 28th Annual Canines, Cats and Cabernet VIRTUALLY on November 14, 2020. Canines, Cats and Cabernet is the shelter’s largest fundraising event of the year, which enables them to help animals in need of life-saving medical care, companionship, and most of all, a forever home. Guests will “party in place” while supporting the homeless pets of North Texas and will be bidding on the animal organization’s live and silent auctions from the comfort of their home. We may not be able to gather in person, but the animals are still in need of support; the generosity provided by the community will continue to provide lifesaving care to pets in need.
