You know autumn is on the horizon when the iconic Addison Oktoberfest returns. The four-day festival is recognized as one of the most authentic Oktoberfest celebrations in the nation. For 36 years, people have been gathering from all over the country to experience an original Bavarian celebration with a unique Texan twist.
People dress in dirndls and lederhosen to revel in German culture, cuisine, music and bier. The sound of polka bands and traditional entertainers circulates the air of Addison Circle Park. There are games for bier lovers, children, dachshunds and more. Addison Oktoberfest is the time for soaking up the sun and throwing back brews!
Bier first, food second! There will be bier booths set up around the park with drinks that will transport you to the streets of Munich. The menu lists five beverages: Oktoberfest Bier, Oktoberfest MÓ“rzen, Hefe Weizen, Weizen-Radler (non-alcoholic) and Grapefruit Radler.
Even though Oktoberfest is all about bier, food is just as needed for the celebration! Indulge in savory German staples like sausages and strudels. There will be over 20 food stands, and you might end up visiting several since there’s so many appetizing choices. Smoked jalapeño cheddar bratwurst, schnitzel sandwiches, turkey legs, German skillet potatoes and chili cheese fries are just a few of the many options. Be sure to save room for dessert. There’s going to be a lot of funnel cake and apple strudel!
Activities will be taking place throughout the festival. Watch to see which dog makes it first across the finish line at the Dachshund Dash or consider entering the Masskrugstemmen contest, a competition where you hold a one-liter stein of Paulaner bier at shoulder level for as long as possible. There will be bier barrel racing, biergarten bingo and bier maiden stein carrying. Kids can head down to Kidsgarten for arts and crafts, and teenagers can hit up Partyplatz for loads of cool games.
Why not make a little trip out of it? Book an Addison Oktoberfest hotel package to receive special rates on accommodations, 2 single-day general admission tickets, 2 Paulaner biers, 2 commemorative lapel pins and 2 commemorative 0.5L steins. There are 14 hotels to choose from and rates start as low as $95 a night.
The festival is September 14th-17th and admission is free on Thursday and Sunday. A day pass is $10, and kids nine and under get in free. Parking is free so no need to worry about that! Now, get ready for some German fun,
