We all know that Feb. 14 is Valentine’s Day. The day when couples celebrate their love for each other with a special dinner and gifts. However, did you know that Jan. 26 is National Spouses Day? This day is just for those of us who have taken the plunge and gotten married. (Insert smiling emoji). What better way to get your year started out right than to celebrate your spouse on a day outside of your anniversary and Valentine’s Day when restaurants and date night-type places are packed?
National Spouses Day falls this year on Thursday, so getting reservations and finding a great restaurant will be easier than a weekend date. Addison offers many choices from world-renowned restaurants to live music, comedy clubs and so much more! The key will be to plan ahead and mix it up a little bit.
Addison is home to almost 200 restaurants, to put it in perspective, you could visit a different restaurant every single day until the middle of July and not repeat a restaurant! That’s a lot of choices!
My wife and I love Italian food, it’s unofficially our date night dining choice. As fate would have it, our two favorite Italian places were named #1 and #2 in the 2022 Readers’ Choice Awards as “Favorite Italian Restaurants.” Kenny’s Italian Kitchen won the award followed by Antonio Ristorante. We love Kenny’s and their menu is full of amazing dishes like the Fettuccini Carbonara and the Midnight Meatballs. Kenny’s atmosphere is always friendly and right from the moment you walk in the door you are treated like family.
Antonio Ristorante is the heart of Addison Circle. It’s a beautiful restaurant with a fabulous outdoor dining space. If the weather permits, I highly recommend dining outside. Try the Lasagna Ripiena Alla Bolognese, or one of my favorites, the Gnocchi Con Scelta Di Salse. It’s a house-made potato gnocchi with a choice of creamy gorgonzola, rosatino, or bolognese sauce.
If you and your spouse are carnivores like me, you are in for a treat.
Al Biernat’s is an upscale steakhouse right off the Dallas North Toll and Spring Valley. Al Biernat’s menu includes their delicious Texas Wagyu long bone short rib, North Dakota Buffalo filet as well as the classics like filet mignon, and Prime Cowboy ribeye. Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation.
While typically we think of special occasions like National Spouse’s day as a dinner date night type of date, how about switching it up and grabbing brunch instead? Or if you are making a whole weekend of it, head over to Snooze An A.M. Eatery for breakfast or lunch, or grab a coffee and a pastry at Astoria Caffe.
How about dinner and a show? Some great drinks, live music? Table 13 fits the bill and their website perfectly describes it, “Table 13’s Rat Pack-inspired venue provides the perfect backdrop for date night, special occasions, or any time you want to experience impeccable service in a distinctive atmosphere. A Baby Grand piano sets the stage for live music nightly, featuring popular Dallas-based artists including Melani Skybell, Mike Nicosia, and the Marc Toussaint Combo performing legendary pop and jazz standards to swing and vocal jazz.”
Looking for a more relaxed, ‘you don’t need to dress up’ or maybe a double date type of evening Sidecar Social is the place. Sidecar features live music, private karaoke, and classic games! They feature craft cocktails and a scratch kitchen with some delicious dishes to eat while you play darts or challenge your spouse to a game of ping-pong.
They say laughter is the best medicine, but you don’t need to be sick to head over to the Addison Improv. On Jan. 26, Atsuko Okatsuka will be bringing the house down with her standup comedy. Atsuko was named to Variety’s 10 Comics to Watch for 2022 and she has had appearances in The Late Late Show with James Corden, The Eric Andre Show, and many others.
Dinner and a movie perhaps? All in one place at the Village on the Parkway. After grabbing a bit to eat in one of the many restaurants nearby, walk over to the AMC Village on the Parkway 9 and catch the latest Hollywood release. Village on the Parkway 9 features the most comfortable seats you can find in any theater as well as lots of snacks for the movie.
Celebrating our spouses and spending some quality time with them is a great way to ensure the love remains for a long time. Any excuse to spend some extra time together I think is a great way to let them know how much you love them and enjoy being with them. So don’t wait until Valentine’s Day, take advantage of this National Spouse Day, and celebrate each other!
