This musical and comedy is to be set in London in 1907. The main character, Monty Navarro, is a poor clerk who recently discovered that his mother passed away.
The silver-lining to this tragic event is Mr. Navarro is also informed that he is ninth in line to inheriting and becoming the earldom (rank or title of an Earl) of Highhurst which is controlled by the extremely wealthy D’Ysquith banking family.
Mr. Navarro writes a letter to the D’Ysquith family mentioning who his mother, Isobel, was (a member of the aristocratic D’Ysquith family). Mr. Navarro hopes to find a job and his place within the family, however, he receives a reply from the affluent family denying any and all connection to Isobel.
Throughout the musical, Mr. Navarro is reluctant to give up his potential status within the D’Ysquith family. One bold choice Mr. Navarro decides to do is to visit the Highhurst Castle. There he finally is introduced to Lord Adalbert D’Ysquith, the current Earl of Highhurst. However, the result of the meeting is not one that Mr. Navarro wanted.
Monty found another path that could be his ticket into the family. Monty befriends Reverend Lord Ezekial D’Ysquith, clergyman of the family, where he then learns that Ezekial remembers his mother. As he gives Monty a tour of the family church, he mentions to Monty that he believes it is best if he does not advocate on Monty’s behalf because he wants to avoid turmoil with the family at any cost. As they are wrapping up their conversation Ezekial loses his balance leading to his own death. Coincidental?
