The firm focuses exclusively on family legal matters including divorce, child custody, and child support. They also focus on time scheduling modification and collaborative divorce.
The collaborative divorce process helps avoid a messy traditional litigated divorce. Instead, the lawyers work together cooperatively and towards an agreement to avoid going to court.
At Cleaves Family Law, collaborative divorce is often used along with the Texas Neutral Coach Model, where the attorneys work together. The neutral coach model helps the clients and their attorneys work together to obtain personal assets, agree on a parenting schedule as well as having joint meetings with different professionals.
Cleaves Family Law is directed by Rhonda Cleaves who has been practicing law for over 20 years. In 2005, she left a successful trial practice to concentrate on family law, specifically families in transition to post-divorce.
Cleaves graduated summa cum laude from Stephen F. Austin State University with a degree in history, psychology, and communications, then later earned her law degree from The University of Texas School of Law.
As a child that grew up in a divorced family, Cleaves understands what is like to go through in a divorce. She knows the different challenges families encounter when faced with this experience. Her goal is to guide her clients through the process, help them move on, and provide good care for them through her services.
Besides directing the firm, she is actively involved in local and state organizations that help educate on the idea of collaborative divorce to both the public and other legal professionals.
Cleaves has been recognized by the Thomson Reuters service and was named as a “Texas Rising Star” in the Texas Monthly magazine. Cleaves Family Law was also recognized by Best Lawyers in 2021.
