Looking for something to do? Come take the participation-based workshop, Conquering the Dance Call, with Director and Choreographer Penny Ayn Maas for a fun and educative Monday on Oct 4th and Oct 11th!
Conquering the Dance Call is specifically for performers but is open to everybody. The workshop takes participants through the basic jazz and ballet steps that would likely show in musical theatre and dance calls.
The program is meant to help those who are shy and/or lack dance training to bring up their confidence in their dance abilities. The program is also meant to encourage performers to go to castings and auditions that have movement calls.
The first class will be held on Oct. 4th, it will include tips and tricks to conquer the dance call, what to wear, what a choreographer might be looking for, and then the class will be walked through a basic combination which will be performed at the end of class.
The second class will cover a Broadway combination from “All that Jazz” from Chicago. This class will be run as a mock dance call; therefore participants are able to apply what they learned in the first lesson! Participants will also have the opportunity to get feedback.
This program is ideal for those who want to get a workout in and learn how to get noticed and stand out in auditions.
The workshop will be taught and hosted by Penny Ayn Maas, who besides being a director and choreographer has also worked as a professional actress, singer, and dancer for over 20 years. She was a part of three Tony Award-Winning Shows including the original cast of Crazy for You.
Maas has experience teaching hip-hop, jazz, and tap dance in New Jersey previously and directed for Lyric Stage in Dallas.
Conquering the Dance Call will be held both Oct. 4th and Oct.11th at WaterTower Theatre from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Tickets are up for sale for $99. For tickets and more information go to https://watertowertheatre.org/event/conquering-the-dance-call.
