Pumpkin Spice Lattes may be out, but we are still daydreaming about sunscreen and tan lines, cool swimming pools, and ice-cold margaritas over here. Summertime isn’t technically over for another month, people! And, it’s not hard to forget with Texas temperatures scorching like they are. If you are trying to soak up every last bit of the sun’s rays before pulling out your sweaters and pumpkin décor, then keep reading for a few tips on making the most of your summer in the North Dallas Corridor.
The Addison Athletic Club outdoor pool is open for another two weekends for members! It will be open Saturday from noon-8 p.m. and Sunday from 1-6 p.m. this weekend and Labor Day weekend before it closes for another year. And with a zero-depth entry pool, vortex, waterfalls, a covered pavilion seating area and more, this is the perfect spot to unwind this summer. You can also host your own end-of-summer bash by reserving the pool pavilion for a private party (when space is available).
Dance at a Summer Concert
Outdoor summer concerts are one of the best parts of the season. You still have three chances left to enjoy these at Vitruvian Park. On Thursday, August 26, Vitruvian Nights Live is back, featuring music from Emerald City Band from 7-9:30 p.m. Then, the final Vitruvian Salsa Festival will take place on Saturday, August 28, featuring free salsa dance lessons, live music from Tumbaka and DJ Colombiano, and more from 6-10 p.m. Finally, Thursday, September 9 will be the last Vitruvian Nights Live of the season, featuring music from Bidi Bidi Banda, a Selena tribute band, from 7-9:30 p.m. These events will also feature food trucks, so you can have everything you need in one spot.
Meet Friends at a Park
Hanging out outside is one of the best parts of summertime. Wake up early for a stroll through the Spruill Dog Park with your pet before work, or meet your friends at Addison Circle Park on your lunch break for food next to a beautiful fountain. For some quiet, end-of-day reflection, head to the shaded Quorum Park or the inspirational Celestial Park. No matter if you want to throw the Frisbee, read a book in the shade, or share a picnic, there’s an Addison park for that!
Get Some Retail Therapy
Feeling sad about the upcoming season change? Treat yourself to a day of shopping at Village on the Parkway. Grab some cute summer fashions (on clearance!) from Francesca’s, then get your nails done at Nails Now. Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa offers plenty of relaxing treatments, and Mattison Ave Salon Suites will have your hair looking perfect in no time! Later, grab dinner at one of the 20 onsite restaurants, and see a movie at AMC Village on the Parkway 9. It’s a perfect date-day or an activity with friends.
Laugh Until You Cry
Laughter is the best medicine, especially in the carefree days of summer. Addison Improv is the number one spot in town to hear super talented local comedians perform bits that will have your sides hurting from laughing so hard. This Thursday, Jesse Peyton and Chad Prather stop by on their Unapologetic tour. These Texas natives “shamelessly deliver laughter with common sense, truth and hilarity,” according to their bio. Then on Friday-Sunday, Jackie Fabulous will take the stage! You may recognize her from becoming a semi-finalist on the 2019 season of “America’s Got Talent.” She is “a a hilarious and affable stand-up comedian, writer, actor, producer, motivational speaker, and headliner who uses her jokes and sparkling nature to simultaneously entertain, encourage, and empower audiences while keeping them laughing, and easily navigating the comedy gamut from family friendly to naughty,” according to her bio.
Book a Hotel for Addison Oktoberfest
Sure, we typically think of Addison Oktoberfest as a fall event, but it actually takes place on the last official weekend of summer, September 16-19. Turn this fun outdoor festival into a weekend getaway by booking a room in a local Addison hotel and making the most of it! This is your chance to drink bier, compete in German Idol, participate in bier barrel rolling, or cheer during the Dachshund Dash. The weekend is also jam-packed with live music and delicious food, so you’ll be entertained for days.
