Addison – The Guide Readers’ Choice Awards Event Recap

Congratulations to all the winners of the 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards! Addison – The Guide recently honored the event winners with the 12th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards event at STIRR inside Village on the Parkway.

“This event is the culmination of a weeks-long campaign of readers voting on their favorites,” said Rodney Hand, publisher and editor-in-chief of Addison – The Guide. “The event, which has a bit of an Academy Award feel to it, allows each company to celebrate together as winners and tell a little bit about their story to those in attendance.”

Sharla Holleman, advertising director for Addison – The Guide, added, “It’s a great way for so many of the area businesses to meet each other and celebrate together.”

This year’s event was held at STIRR, a new restaurant that showcases how Addison is on the leading edge of culinary and nightlife. Guests were served hors d’oeuvres and drinks and were given time to network and mingle before the show. Awards were given in 60 categories in dining, attractions, lifestyle, shopping, health and beauty, medical, and business. Over 100 people came out to celebrate.

“I enjoy seeing the owners along with their employees who have won in their respective categories share a fun evening together and say, ‘thank you’ to their team and the voters,” said Holleman. Hand agreed, saying, “I enjoy seeing the business owners, many of whom are friends that I have fostered over the years in the community. This event also allows us to see the great relationship the business owners have with their team members and, honestly, each other. I’m not sure what other event there is where you see direct competitors in the same room sharing drinks, food, and a great time together.”

Zoya Salon was one of the event winners, who won Favorite Hair Salon. “I felt super excited and honored to have the love and support of our guests and our community,” said Zoya Ghamari, owner of Zoya Salon. “We are in the service industry and wanting to please everyone is in our DNA but knowing the we succeeded feels amazing.”

Ghamari loves working out of Addison, which is a central location that is easy to get to for her customers from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Houston, and other places. She also loves how Addison is filled with delicious restaurants and other businesses. “The Readers’ Choice Awards event was a great opportunity to get out of the salon and business and get to meet other business owners and employees that are our neighbors.”

Modern Medicine Dallas won Favorite Weight Loss Program/Clinic and Favorite Functional Medicine Group at the awards. “We are so grateful and proud to win these two awards!” said Becca Hammond, certified health coach at Modern Medicine at Dallas. “Our passion in getting to the root cause of symptoms and guiding as many people as possible to optimum health keeps us passionate each day and being recognized for this is invaluable.”

Hammond enjoyed the awards event, which she said was “very well-organized, highlighted each business beautifully and succinctly, and allowed space for a sense of community and support in the glorious town of Addison.” She loves working in Addison and being a part of the community. “Addison is centrally located, safe, clean, and supportive of businesses and families; the sense of community and support is unmatched with any other area in DFW,” Hammond said. “We are grateful to be located in and serve the community of Addison!”

Hand explained that the Readers’ Choice Awards event is important for both the companies who are nominated and the voters. “If you’ll notice, we call our winners ‘Favorites’ not ‘Best’ because ‘Best’ is subjective, and frankly, no one is qualified to determine who is the best in these categories,” he said. “Instead, it’s factual because our readers have voted these companies their ‘Favorites’ because they meet or exceed the things that are important to them as customers. Also, our competition is a little bit unique in as we have no input through our editors or staff. Our winners are determined 100 percent by the voters with zero input from us. We simply have developed the platform to allow this competition. Finally, our winners are verified by an independent accounting firm, much like the Academy Awards, as we want everyone to have full confidence that the winners have won this competition by only one criterion: the most votes.”
