Happy New Year! A fresh beginning. It’s not just a new year but a new season of opportunities and possibilities. I think it’s safe to say we were more than ready to start 2021. As we look at the calendar for this new year, there are a number of things to get excited about! I am looking forward to Taste of Addison. One of my favorite events of the year! Of course Kaboom Town! and so much more!
We all know the weather here in North Texas can change in the blink of an eye. However, it has been a pretty mild winter with temperatures which means more brunches, lunches, dinners, and live music out on the restaurant patios around Addison.
Enjoy an afternoon out walking in one of Addison’s parks. With the fresh spring weather here, head out for a nice walk and get some fresh air. Spend the morning or afternoon at Addison Circle Park. There are some amazing restaurants just across from the park where you can grab lunch or dinner like Antonio Ristorante and Astoria Caffe and Wine Bar. Of course, there is the walking path and the splash pad for the kids, and even restrooms! This is one of my family’s favorite areas in Addison.
Vitruvian Park is another great place to get some fresh air and even watch your favorite team on TV. Yes, that’s right. Addison Ice House is right next to Vitruvian Park, so after taking a stroll around the walking trail, head in for a cold drink and stay to watch your favorite team on one of the patio TVs. They have great food and craft beers for you to enjoy. Vitruvian Park also has plenty of open areas to lay a blanket down and have a picnic or throw the football around.
If you were as bummed as I was about Taste Addison being canceled last year because of the pandemic, there is some good news! According to the Taste Addison website, it will be back on Jun. 4!
“Save the Date for Taste Addison 2021. Since its inception in 1993, Taste Addison has earned a reputation for joining an exciting collection of musical entertainment with a menu of culinary treats that showcases the town’s celebrated restaurant history. When the festival returns on June 4, 2021, it will again present attendees with a memorable experience that blends national talent, amazing flavors and over 10 acres of festive fun.”
And what is summer without fireworks? While we were able to still enjoy a version of Kaboom Town! last year through a live broadcast, I’m looking forward to being able to come out and watch the incredible fireworks display in person this year. Ranked among the top Independence Day fireworks displays in the country, Kaboom Town! and the Addison Airport Air Show are set to be back on Jul. 3 so save the date! Visit www.addisonkaboomtown.com for more information like how to plan your visit, where to park, and more!
Did you catch WaterTower Theatre’s On-Demand stream of Ella’s Swinging Christmas? WaterTower did an amazing job of adjusting what the pandemic has done to in-person events and made this amazing work of art available online. As we get going in 2021, check out the lineup of plays that they have coming up.
The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time is set to open on Mar. 4 and run through Mar. 21. with the option to stream on-demand or attend in person. Following this performance is “A Raising In The Sun” from Apr. 22 to May 9. According to WaterTower Theatre’s website, “Lorraine Hansberry’s TONY Award-winning drama tells the story of the Youngers, a black family living in Chicago in the 1950s, whose yearning for a piece of the American Dream includes moving to a modest home in a majority white community. This story about identity, justice, and moral responsibility remains as powerful and relevant today as it was 50 years ago.” And finally, on Jun. 10 “Goin’ Hollywood” will make its debut and run through Jun. 27. Visit the WaterTower Theatre website for more information and to purchase tickets, www.watertowertheatre.org.
Rounding out the summer as always is Addison Oktoberfest. This fun and delicious festival will return in September with lots of music, brats, fun, and of course, beer! “Addison Oktoberfest has been recognized as one of the most authentic Oktoberfest celebrations outside of Munich for over three decades. Each year over 45,000 fans come together to share a love of polka, German culture, German food, and the same Paulaner bier that is served at Bavaria’s favorite festival.” Stay up to date with all the latest information on the Addison Oktoberfest website.
Here’s to a new year filled with lots of fun, delicious foods, and laughter with friends and family.
