Calling all students: you’re invited to enter the 2021 DART Student Art Contest! Your artwork could appear on DART vehicles and in galleries, in addition to winning cool prizes!

The theme of the 2021 DART Student Art Contest is Everyday Heroes Ride DART. “This is your chance to salute the hometown heroes that have kept our community going during the pandemic,” stated DART’s website. “When creating your entry, think of all the everyday people that have made a positive impact in your life or the lives of others these past few months. They could be teachers, delivery drivers, bus and train operators, grocery store and restaurant employees, construction workers, doctors, nurses and others who have been on the front lines throughout these challenging times. Heroes come in many forms – show us what your hero looks like!”

This contest is open to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade, with a Best of Show winner being selected from all entries. The Best of Show winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize from Dallas Contemporary, be featured on DART’s website and be featured on DART buses. Additionally, the first place winner in the Kindergarten-2nd grade and 3rd-5th grade categories will receive a prize; the first place winner in the 6th-8thgrade will receive a $100 cash prize with artwork featured at DART rail stations and inside DART trains; and the first place winner in the 9th-12th grade will receive a $200 cash prize with artwork featured at DART rail stations and inside DART trains. Additionally, teachers or leaders with the most submissions will receive a DART prize package.

When your student is entering the award, be sure he or she follows a few simple rules. Each poster must visually illustrate the theme “Everyday Heroes Ride DART” with original work created by the student (only one entry is allowed per student). Students can use multiple colors of black and white, as long as the entry measures 11” x 17” wide with the design laid out horizontally. Media may include crayons, paint, markers, colored pencils and digital art. /Be sure to include the DART logo in any drawings of buses or trains. A full list of rules can be found here.

Completed entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. March 23, 2021 at DART.org/ArtContest or mailed (with a completed entry form found here) to:
