Easy Workout Ideas to Help You Stay in Shape This Season

Gaining weight during the holidays is the worst, am I right? But, who has time to work out in between shopping, baking and getting ready for the season? Turns out, you do! There are tons of easy, quick workouts that will burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time, even for beginners. Follow these tips on fitting in your exercise during the busiest time of year.

Start by always finding little ways to exercise. Park far away at the store so you have to walk more (this is easy to do now that everything is so crowded). Do squats while waiting in the checkout line – you may earn weird looks, but hey, it’ll definitely keep other shoppers six feet away from you. Do five push-ups before you get the shower, do 10 lunges on your way to the car, do 20 crunches while watching your favorite holiday movie. These are little things, but all together, they add up, helping to balance out the extra cookies you’re eating right now.

Another easy workout is to go walking or jogging inside Vitruvian Park. You already wanted to go there to see the beautiful Vitruvian Lights, taking place every night through Jan. 3 from 5-11 p.m., and now’s your chance. Just wear warm leggings and tennis shoes and move a little faster than you originally intended. All the dazzling lights will distract you from the burn, trust me.

When you are looking for something a little more intense, fit in a strength training workout  at home or in the Addison Athletic Club (for Addison residents only). They have workout machines and weights you can use, even for just 15 minutes, to keep up your strength. Or, go to their YouTube page for easy at-home workouts you can do in your living room.

If all else fails, that’s what New Year’s resolutions are for right? You’ll have plenty of time to work out in 2021.
