Eating delicious burgers and drinking sweet shakes is always a good idea – especially when doing so supports a good cause. Hopdoddy Burger Bar, located inside Village on the Parkway, is partnering with Salood, a Dallas-based non-profit organization, to raise funds to assist pediatric patients suffering from childhood cancer.

For the partnership, Hopdoddy connected with Kasen, a 10-year-old diagnosed with Leukemia last January (who is still in treatment) and his family. Kasen created a shake exclusively for the Hopdoddy Dallas market with a little help from the Hopdoddy food and beverage team. The Conqueror, created by Kasen, includes a Hopdoddy custard base, pieces of red velvet cake, Kit Kats, crushed pretzels and whipped cream and is available now through October 6 online and in the Dallas-area restaurants!

According to a post on Salood’s website, Kasen is a “bright energetic sports fanatic.” He started experiencing recurring fevers at 7 years old, even though he had always been healthy and was active in the community baseball and soccer leagues. After months of weekly high fevers, his family knew there was something wrong. After six months, he was so ill, he was admitted to the ER with pneumonia. There, they discovered leukemia was in over 70 percent of his body. He started an intensive chemo treatment within three days, and he was hospitalized for the entire first month. When he was finally released to come home, he struggled to walk and had lost all of his hair. Over the course of the next year, he continued to be admitted to the hospital, struggled to gain weight, and longed to play sports again. He swallowed multiple chemo pills daily, went to the clinic for chemo infusions weekly, and monthly endured spinal taps. He never complained once! He eventually gained enough strength to be able to play sports again.

“He has been an inspiration to many, and a witness to the power of prayer and love of God,” said a statement from his family. “We are so thankful for how far he’s come and all he has accomplished so far during treatment. Though we still have a long road ahead of us, we have hope.”

Salood, Inc. is an incorporated nonprofit organization founded in June 2019. It works in cooperation with hospitals and companies to creatively provide financial assistance to pediatric patients suffering from childhood cancer.

Hopdoddy, known for its wide selection of original, handcrafted burgers made with quality ingredients, will donate a portion of the proceeds from The Conqueror to support Salood in its assistance for pediatric patients suffering from childhood cancer. Purchases can be made for dine-in or in-store pickup!
