Pregnancy is a magical experience – but that doesn’t mean it comes without risks. A number of factors, from age, genetics, diet and random chance, can cause a woman to be classified with a high-risk pregnancy. According to the Mayo Clinic, if you have a high-risk pregnancy, you or your baby might be at increased risk of health problems before, during or after delivery, and special monitoring or care is needed. That’s where Corridor-based High Risk Pregnancy Doctors comes in. This practice, led by maternal-fetal medicine specialist Violetta Lozovyy, M.D., provide “high-quality care with a hands-on approach for women who are preparing for pregnancy and childbirth.”
High Risk Pregnancy Doctors is dedicated to a highly accessible, patient-centered experience. They offer many services, including first trimester fetal echo, prenatal care, preconception counseling, fetal interventions, postnatal care, obstetrics and gynecology, fit belly program and spa services. They are taking appointments now, and they’re practice officially opens Oct. 5! We talked to Dr. Lozovvy about what to expect.
“We specialize in high-risk pregnancies, but we also serve low-risk women because they may become high-risk as their pregnancies continue,” explained Dr. Lozovvy. “Specialists like us are scarce in this community. We want to take care of women. Women get an ultrasound, and then we explain the sonogram to them, Afterward, we review the hi-res pictures in greater detail and sometimes call the patients back with more information. I want patients to communicate with me or my high-risk nurse directly, so they always have direct access to text my any questions.”
Dr. Lozovvy is a board-certified OB/GYN and Maternal-Fetal medicine specialist, with over a decade of experience providing exceptional care to women at every stage of pregnancy. She not only exams sonograms in her office, but also, she serves and helps women every day. “That makes us extremely different; nothing like this exists in this area.”
You can always be sure you are getting the best care, with the latest high-tech equipment. Dr. Lozovyy can do first-trimester ultrasounds and get a deep understanding of the baby’s anatomy when the mother is only 12-13 weeks. She is also fetal-echo certified, so she can see if a baby is at risk for congenital heart disease early on.
High Risk Pregnancy Doctors also works with a world-renowned fetal surgery center. So, for instance, if a baby has spina bifida (meaning there is something wrong with the developing spine), then doctors can go in and fix it while the baby is still developing. If you wait, the spinal cord will get exposed to amniotic flood, destroying nerves and likely resulting in a baby who won’t be able to walk.
The practice also does genetic counseling and explaining to women some of the likelihoods of different issues popping up on their genetic blood tests. Women can also come before they get pregnant to learn of potential risks and how to mitigate those.
“We are an all-in-one resource; a women’s center with a lot of helpful services for women under one roof,” said Dr. Lozovvy. “I strongly belief that exercise is a huge contribution to a baby’s future health. You should do minimal-to-moderate cardiovascular exercise. Many women can’t go into gyms when pregnant, so we started a Fit Belly program that is still in its final developmental stages. A pre-natal instructor will host low-impact spin and cardiovascular classes. Exercise can often prevent women from having to take medications later on.”
They also have a small spa, where women can make private appointments for a mani/pedi, facial, massage and more, and a boutique, where women can shop for luxury cosmetics and other products.
“It’s a pregnancy center, not just an office,” said Dr. Lozovvy. “It’s a place where women can make friends and socialize, get shopping done, and see the doctor and the baby via ultrasound. We are also currently allowing partners to attend appointments with the pregnant women.”
