Even though Labor Day looks a little different this year, you and your family can still have a relaxing and fun weekend. Here are some activities you can do over the long weekend to make it memorable and worthwhile.
A Game of Cornhole
If you have a cornhole set, this is the perfect time to use it. Divide the family up into teams and play as many games as you’d like. You can have some friendly trash talk with each other as you try to throw the beanbags into tiny holes. For the scoring, simply give one point if a beanbag lands on the board and three points if it is thrown through the hole or knocked there by another bag.
The summer heat is still around which means a long dip in the pool will feel so cool and refreshing. Some neighborhood and community pools are open with certain restrictions and health and safety policies in place, if you feel comfortable with that. The Addison Athletic Club outdoor pool will also have its last day open for the season on Monday from noon-7 p.m. If you are not comfortable going out in a public place, there are still some things you can do to feel refreshed. One way is to pull out the sprinkler hose and have the kids run through it. Another option is to play tag/keep away by trying to dose the kiddos with a streaming water as they run away from you.
Spend the Day Outdoors
Taking the family to a park is a great way to spend the day. Whether you bring your bikes, some sporting equipment, or just yourselves, there are plenty of fun things to do outdoors. Choose a time that works best for your family whether in the morning, mid-day, or evening, and spend some quality time together. There are some great places in Addison to choose from, including Vitruvian Park, Addison Circle Park or Bosque Park.
Have a Picnic
You can do this while you are at the park, or you can set up a picnic in your own backyard. Simply roll out a big, comfy blanket or throw, get some cool drinks ready, and have a delicious, easy-to-make meal. We suggest having some cool sandwiches, fresh fruit, and crunchy chips to eat (and maybe something sweet too).
