Minimalist Makeup

With summer in full gear, having a full face of makeup seems less and less appealing. A minimalist makeup look works well in the summer because it requires less effort and you won’t have to worry about sweating all your makeup off on the walk to your car. You can use all of the following products for a complete “no-makeup makeup” look or use a combination of a few for a bright eyed look fit for the perfect summer day. Everything can be found in stores in the North Dallas Corridor.

In the summer, I either go without a base or just wear concealer. Concealer can do the same job as foundation if placed under the eyes and any other dark or red spots you want to hide, just with less heavy duty coverage as foundation. This Nars concealer does a great job at covering blemishes and imperfections, and lasts throughout the day.

Adding Dimension

Instead of spending time carving out your bone structure with typical contouring powders or creams, focusing on highlighting certain points of your face to create dimension instead. This Hourglass mini blush  in the shade Mood Exposure has a bronze shade mixed in with the shimmer that can give a contoured affect when put on the hollows of your cheeks.

A separate blush and highlighter also make a great duo for drawing attention to your face. Fenty Beauty’s cream blush is buildable, so it’s nice for a light rosy look or a more dramatic look if you’re really into blush, like I am. I’ve found that when doing minimalist makeup, it’s okay to do a little more of certain things, like blush, because you’re not going overboard on everything else.

Liquid highlighter is another secret weapon for this type of makeup. A little of it goes a long way and can make you look bright and ready for the day with no effort. Something like L’Oreal’s Lumi Glotion on the top of your cheek bones looks beautiful over a blush, but looks just as radiant with only concealer or a bare face.

Eyes Up Here

Eyes are a main attraction on our faces, so I’d be remiss to not add some products that accentuate them. For low maintenance looks, you want mascara that adds volume, like this one by L’Oreal Lash Paradise. I’ve been asked several times if I was wearing lash extensions after using this product, if that’s any indication of how well it works!

It’s been said that eyes are the windows to the soul – well, I feel the same about eyebrows. Just filling them in can transform your face. For brows, Benefit’s Goof Proof brow pencil can enhance them with little fuss involved.

For minimalist makeup, a lip isn’t completely necessary. You could just top it off with chapstick and be good to go. However, for those of us that want a little more, a lipgloss is the way to go. Fenty Beauty’s lip gloss line is a great addition to everyday makeup looks, as is the Too Faced Lip Injection plumping gloss. This clear gloss gives a great shine and does the job that overlining lips with liner does by plumping.

Finishing Touch

Even if you chose to go without concealer, some matte finishing powder can prevent the super sweaty look as the day goes on. NYX has a very affordable setting powder that’s lightweight enough for summer.
