Oscar’s log, day 3522 of #ShelterAtHome. Or at least that’s what it feels like, am I right? The days can sometimes tend to run together and trying to find a rhythm during this season has been rather difficult. I love watching TV as much as the next person but staring at a screen all day for Zoom meetings and TPS reports can take a toll on you. Part of my daily routine had been to listen to different podcasts on the way to drop off the kids at school and then as I headed off to work. But with my commute going from about a 15-mile trip to about 100 steps, it’s been hard to try and stay up-to-date on podcasts. While it does take a little more effort on my part to get some quality podcast time in, I’d thought I’d ask some of my friends about the podcasts they are listening to right now.
Because I love Star Wars, DC and Marvel comic, let’s start with a favorite of mine, Big Fat Geek Podcast. Now, this podcast covers everything from movies, comics, science fiction, gaming and everything in between. High-quality production, funny dudes and lots of great content. While they’ve never been willing to discuss my theory of why I think Jar Jar Binks is a Jedi Master, Big Fat Geek Podcast is still one of my favorites.
Because I love music and work in the music industry, I, of course, have one or two music podcasts on my list.
I listen to Song Exploder on a regular basis. It’s a podcast where musicians break down their songs and tell stories on how their songs came to be. From inspiration for lyrics to weird recording tricks and ideas, it’s a very insightful podcast and I always walk away with a lot of inspiration to work on my own stuff. Past guests include Bon Iver, Fleetwood Mac, Janelle Monáe, The Roots and over 150 other artists!
Dr. Death is a must-listen for all of us in the Addison and North Dallas area. It’s about Dr. Christopher Duntsch who was a neurosurgeon who claimed to be the best in Dallas and received awards and lots of accolades without really doing surgery. After a while, his patients started to experience complications and well, I don’t want to give it away, so you will just have to subscribe to find out what happened. Check out the show’s website for more.
Podcasts are not just for adults. Of course, now, there are lots of great ones for the kids as well. Wow In the World is a great podcast where kids (and adults) learn about the amazing wonders of the world around them. It’s funny and educational, the kids will walk away having learned a great deal and have had a great time doing it. Check out the show’s website.
