Hundreds of red Chinese lanterns are floating through the air at Galleria Dallas, where the shopping center is celebrating Chinese New Year! The holiday, which runs Jan. 25-Feb. 4, is a festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar. Galleria Dallas is celebrating by bringing an art installation of 250 enormous Chinese lanterns over the center’s iconic ice-skating rink to celebrate the Year of the Rat.
This beautiful lantern art installation, called the Galleria Lantern Festival, will be on display through Saturday, Feb. 8.
“Dallas is such a multicultural city,” explained Galleria Dallas General Manager Angie Freed in a recent press release. “Galleria Dallas is excited to share a small part of Chinese culture this year. We’re committed to celebrating our diverse, international visitor base with cultural events each year.”
In celebration of the Galleria Lantern Festival and of the Lunar New Year, Galleria Dallas will also host the HD Lion Dance Foundation in a special performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2. This performance will include more than 30 performers engaging in a lion dance, dragon dance, drum performance, kung fu demonstration and a parade throughout the center court on Level 1.
