Fireplaces are burning brightly, the wind is blowing briskly and snow is falling gently (on our TV screens at least): winter is almost here! As we prepare for cold weather and the holiday season, now is the perfect time to start making plans and finally crossing things off our long to-do lists. In fact, there’s no better way to do this then by starting a winter bucket list in Addison! Add all the classic seasonal activities, like looking at Christmas lights, trying a new flavor of hot cocoa or finally completing that 5k run you’ve always wanted to do. We have a few ideas to get you started and keep you having fun into the New Year!
Step one: visit Santa. Step two: buy yourself all your must-have gifts (you’re already at the mall, after all!) If taking a picture with Father Christmas is one of your favorite traditions, then stop by the Shops at Willow Bend this month. He is located in Macy’s Court near the Crayola Experience in an interactive new exhibit. See over 200 thousand mini LED lights illuminating gift boxes that prove to be as picture worthy as the big guy himself. Then, see Santa anytime from 10 a.m.09 p.m. Monday-Saturday and from noon-6 p.m. on Sundays.
Or, you can go to Santaland at Galleria Dallas. He is set up inside a scene that looks like it came straight out of the North Pole! While you are there, be sure to check out the Grand Tree Lighting and Holiday Skate Show at 6 p.m. on Dec. 14 and Dec. 21, featuring Mirai Nagasu, 2018 Olympic team bronze, and Kaetlyn Osmond, 2018 Olympic team champion, respectively. Each show also features an appearance by Missile Toes, an ice-skating, back-flipping, pyrotechnic Santa Claus, and a fireworks finale. It’s a sight you will truly have to see to believe.
See Twinkling Lights
The holidays aren’t complete without seeing a spectacular display of Christmas lights! You can drive around town, admiring all the decorations and lights set up in Addison, or you can go straight to Vitruvian Park to see Vitruvian Lights. This dazzling display features more than 500 trees wrapped in millions of sparkling lights – in all the colors of the rainbow. Walk through this free event daily from 5-11 p.m. until Jan. 1.
Treat Yourself to a High-Class Dinner
Take a date (or yourself!) out to a nice dinner to celebrate another wonderful year in the books. Texas de Brazil is hosting a special Christmas Eve dinner on Dec. 24. You can get their classic meat, including chicken breast wrapped in bacon, Parmesan drumettes, herb-marinated pork loin, Brazilian sausage, flank steak, filet mignon, Picanha and more, served alongside traditional holiday favorites.
On New Year’s Eve, visit Table 13 for a classy celebration to ring in the New Year. This dinner, beginning at 8 p.m., features a four-course meal. Start with a Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, a Shaved Seared Tenderloin Crustini or Pan Seared Scallops Endive. This will be followed by your choice of a Caprese Salad, a Winter Salad or Lobster Bisque. Finally, the main course will either be a Delmonico 20oz Bone-in Ribeye, a Pan Seared Wild Alaskan Halibut, a Surf ‘n’ Turf, a Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass or Shrimp Scampi. Don’t forget dessert! Your options include a Chocolate Torte, a Crème Brulee, or a New York Style Cheesecake.
Warm up with a Seasonal Drink
‘Tis the season for peppermint mochas! Try one at Astoria Caffe and Wine Bar, where you can get one as a coffee or a hot chocolate, topped with whipped cream, peppermint shavings and a candy cane. Make your day even more merry by spiking it with a shot of peppermint Kahlua. The perfect complement? A warm, flaky butter croissant served with strawberry slices, butter and jam.
Crush Your Exercise Goals
Start the New Year off right by running a 5k in Addison! The Hotcake Hustle is taking place at the Addison Conference Centre on Jan. 11 beginning at 8 a.m. After running a 5k or 10k, participates can enjoy warm pancakes, hot chocolate and coffee, great music, a beer garden and free goodies from sponsors. You will also get a free long-sleeve shirt and themed finisher’s medal!
Even if you can’t cross off everything on your list, you will still have fun trying. And that’s all that really matters, after all!
