Staycation in Addison

blankMany people save their vacation time for the end of the year. It’s fun to get away during the holiday season – and escape all the stress that comes with it. But this month, consider a different type of trip: a staycation! Maybe you are too busy to plan an international vacay. Or, maybe you want to stay closer to friends and family this year. Or, maybe the thought of getting on an airplane, lugging your bags to a hotel and planning an itinerary sounds more exhausting than it’s worth. We understand! Follow these tips for the most relaxing, exciting staycation right here in Addison.

First, book a hotel room. It’s not a vacation if you still have to do the dishes and clean up after yourself! Addison has 23 motels in town, which are all within walking distance to many restaurants. Renaissance Dallas Addison Hotel, located at 15201 Dallas Parkway, is a full-service option that will make you feel like royalty. Sip on a cool cocktail at Noell JCT, then go up to your room to relax in the comfort of plush bedding, with complimentary Wi-Fi!

The next day, visit Galleria Dallas to experience the magic of Christmastime. Want to see Santa? Follow the forest path and oversized peppermint alleyway to see the jolly old fellow. Later, catch the Grand Tree Lighting Celebration and Holiday Skate Show taking place at noon Nov. 29 featuring Patrick Chan, 2018 Olympic team champion or at 6 p.m. Nov. 30 featuring Stephanie Cirachi, U.S. local champion. Also performing in this show is Missile Toes, an ice-skating, back-flipping, pyrotechnic Santa Claus; and Galleria Dallas Skate School students introducing a countdown to a fireworks finale and lighting of the country’s tallest indoor Christmas tree.

Later, wind down by seeing a movie at AMC Village on the Parkway 9 or LOOK Cinemas. This Friday, the highly anticipated A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood premiers. This movie stars Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers, in a beautiful tale of kindness over cynicism based on the real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and journalist Tom Junod.

Looking for something a little funnier? Visit Addison Impv Nov. 21-24 to see comic/hypnotist Flip Orley perform live. Flip hypnotizes volunteers and encourages them to do wildly hilarious things onstage, all while running a funny commentary. He has performed on “Entertainment Tonight,” “The Today Show” and many other tv shows to showcase his uncanny way with people, his impeccable power of suggestion and his hilarious jokes that keep audiences enthralled the entire show. Instead of humiliating his subjects, he brings out their creativity to entertain audiences. Some of the things he has done include make people forget their names, have them regress to age 5 or pledge undying love to strangers.

End your holiday staycation by visiting the spectacular Vitruvian Lights, running from Nov. 29-Jan. 1, 2020. Millions of dazzling LED lights are wrapped around more than 500 trees inside Vitruvian Park, where guests can walk through and admire the fantastic display. Come on Nov. 29, Dec. 7 or Dec. 14 to also enjoy live music, pictures with Santa, food trucks and other holiday treats. It’s the perfect way to end your Christmas vacation in Addison!
