Town of Addison Hosts Coworking Day in the Park, Oct. 24

Trade the dim lighting, cramped desk and busy office distractions for a gorgeous day spent outside! The Town of Addison and the Addison TreeHouse are hosting the Third Annual Coworking Day in the Park from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 24 in the pavilion at Addison Circle Park — and you’re invited! This will be a unique opportunity to enjoy the cool fall air, meet others in the community, and get some productive work done in a fresh environment.

Bring your laptop, iPad, phone, pen and paper, typewriter or anything else you need to successfully work, and the Town of Addison and Addison TreeHouse will provide the rest. While supplies last, you can enjoy free coffee — because everyone knows more coffee equals more productivity! When it’s time for lunch, head to the food trucks parked around the park to purchase a meal.

“Addison has a lot of great attributes and assets, plus great weather in the fall and spring; our parks are probably at the top of that list,” said Orlando Campos, Director of Economic Development and Tourism for the Town of Addison. “As a department, we are always looking at developing innovative programs and activities to enhance the business and work climate in the community, so we decided to partner with out Parks Department and Conference Centre to activate our parks with an event that would encourage people to explore our parks and get out of their office buildings. This is a great example of how we are always exploring ways to collaborate with other departments within our organization.”

Campos himself loves working in the park during this event and attends it every year. He also encourages all departments within the Town to come out and work in the park on that day. To make it even better, Coworking in the Park has added something new this year: “We’ve added an exercise component to showcase some of the activities organized by our athletic club,” said Campos.

When you start to feel tired in the afternoon, take a break to enjoy a free fitness class! Classes will be approximately 30-45 minutes long and include: dance fitness at noon, yoga at 2 p.m. and goat yoga at 4 p.m.

Coworking Day in the Park will have free WiFi, restrooms and a limited number of tables and chairs set up for public use. Additionally, guests are encouraged to bring their own picnic blankets and camp chairs if they would prefer. If you want to bring your entire department outside for this day (it’s a great team-building experience!), then you can email Wilson Kerr, Economic Development Manager for the Town of Addison, at wkerr@addisontx.gov to reserve a company table in the park.

The Addison TreeHouse is a nonprofit coworking space that focuses on education, mentorship and community, all of which are vital to helping startups and entrepreneurs start, build and grow their businesses. It is a partnership between the Town of Addison’s Economic Development Department and The Dallas Entrepreneur Center. It provides aspiring entrepreneurs with education, training, programming, incubation, collaborative space, and access to capital and promotion. Since opening five years ago, it has helped launch more than 100 business startups.

The Town of Addison is home to more than 180 restaurants, 23 hotels, upscale living, more than 10 million square feet of office space, the Addison Airport and world class special events, making Addison “the sweet spot” in North Texas.

“At the end of the day, all of the work we all do is to make Addison a great place for everyone,” added Campos. “I cannot think of any other city in North Texas, or the state, that does this type of event.”

This event is free to the public, whether you live or work in Addison. So come out, enjoy the cooler temperatures and sunshine, and get ready for your most productive day of work this week!
