Combat boots, crop tops, even (dare we say it) fanny packs are back in style this season! Seeing people walk around with the same looks I wore as a pre-teen in the late ‘90s is a little unnerving, but also somehow freeing – like I can truly be myself once again. With a scrunchie on my wrist and my shirt in a knot above my waist, I feel ready to take on the world once again! Here are my favorite throwback fashions getting a new life right now.
Slip Dress, Zara – $49.90
Ever since Rachel Green wore slip dresses, I have been obsessed. They are slinky, strappy, sexy and oh-so-versatile. This slip dress from Zara is a little head-nod to Rachel as it’s a deep forest green. The draped neckline, spaghetti straps and ruffled hem add the little details that will make this your new go-to outfit. Wear with a fuzzy jacket over it or with a white turtleneck underneath to take this look through to winter. Finally, finish by putting on a pair of grungy boots or sleek heels to make it work for any occasion!
Indigo Rd. Mara Combat Boot, Francesca’s – $64
Ankle booties and knee-high leather boots are great, but when you want to look a little more edgy, go for combat boots instead! This military-inspired footwear is popular once again as a way to add a little grit to your otherwise ultra-feminine outfit. We love this black combat boots from Francesca’s, which feature long laces that tie above your ankle and an easy side zipper to get on and off. These boots are all-black except for a tan stripe that gives an added flair. You can’t go wrong wearing these with jeans, dresses or leggings this fall!
Khaite Kirsty Fluid Satin Padded Shoulder Blouse, Neiman Marcus – $820
Full disclosure: I used to make fun of my mom for her ‘80s-era shoulder pads, but now I can’t get enough of this look! There is something totally boss babe about the power shoulders. Wear this look to work with the Khaite padded shoulder blouse in black. This flowy satin blouse has underarm cutouts for an expected edge, strong shoulder pads, and long sleeves that billow out over the hands. Pair with your favorite black pants and heels.
Coach Belt Bag, Coach – $175
It’s hard to believe it, but it’s true: fanny packs are back! Renamed as “belt bags,” (honestly, it sounds much classier that way), these hands-free bags will make everything from running errands to bar hopping much easier. We love the Coach bag in bright cherry pink, made with polished pebble leather and one zippered pocket that holds all the essential. Wear it the traditional way around your waist, or loop it around your shoulder for a crossbody look.
