For people with curly hair, the summer season can be frustrating. Warm weather can cause more damage, frizz, and unruliness to your hair than the cooler months. However, there are a few things you can do to help nourish, hydrate, and control your “uncontrollable” curly hair. Here are a few tips that will help you take care of your hair this summer!
Turn Down the Heat from Hair Styling Tools
Tools that you use to style your hair such as hot combs, curling irons, blow dryers, and straighteners dry your hair out when it needs moisture the most. Embrace your natural look and refrain as often as you can from using thermal tools. There are plenty of air-dry styling creams that will help fight frizz and give your curly hair structure. Apply the hair creams to damp hair and twist small sections to help define the curls. Wait until the hair is completely dry, then unfurl each curl carefully with your fingertips.
Be Careful with Wet Hair
When you have curly hair, it is crucial to not pull your hair back when it’s wet. This can cause split ends in the middle of the hair shaft. To help prevent this, slick your heart back with gel, oil, or conditioner. Air dry it and use a headband to help keep your hair off your face. The warm summer heat helps dry your hair faster than it does in the winter months.
Moisturize and Condition Your Hair
During the dry summer, keeping your hair moisturized is essentially to taming your curls. When you are buying products, choose ones that are rich in moisture, i.e. moisturizing shampoos, styling products and conditioners. These will have ingredients such as honey, coconut oil, and shea butter. You should also apply deep conditioner to your hair more frequently during this time period as well.
