“Beauty has an address ~ Oman.” That’s the first thing that you will read as you browse through the Sultanate of Oman Ministry of Tourism website. Oman is a beautiful country located on the Arabian Peninsula with coastlines on the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Beautiful beaches, breathtaking mountain views, caves, off-road activities, scuba, camping and so much more. Oman is a hidden travel gem.
One of the most interesting things according to the tourism website, “Al Wattih, in Muscat Governorate is one of the first inhabited cities. Modern archaeological discoveries suggest that humans settled in it during the Stone Age, i.e., more than 10,000 years ago.” As a person who loves history, Oman is a bucket list trip for this very reason. Being able to walk along the same routes as other people did thousands of years ago is such a cool experience.
For those that love the sea and exploring it, scuba diving in Oman is an experience you won’t soon forget. Oman is one of the most popular diving destinations in this part of the world. There are lots of small islands, caves and marine cliffs to explore as well as coral reefs. Although spring to summer is the best time to enjoy diving, it is actually open year-round. Some of the best places for diving include Al Fahal Island, the Dhofar Beaches and the Al-Dimaniyat Islands Nature Reserve to name a few.
For hiking or camping, visit Jabal Shams (Sun Mountain). This is the highest peak in the Arabian Peninsula at around 9855 feet above sea level. This mountain is called Jabal Shams because it is the first place to see sunlight at dawn and the last place to see it at dusk.
Traveling to Oman requires a tourist visa and it is recommended that you purchase it before traveling there. It can be done online, and it is actually quite an easy process.
Visit Oman’s Tourism website for more information on how to travel there, where to stay and what to expect. So, add Oman to your bucket list and explore one of the world’s most beautiful, and history-rich areas. You will never forget it.
