Warm. Buttery. Fluffy. Sweet. Pancakes are little pieces of heaven in your mouth—especially when served in a huge stack on a frigid January morning! There’s only one problem: pancakes don’t usually fit on your New Year’s diet plan. If you are craving these tasty treats, don’t despair—just sign up to run in the Hotcake Hustle on Jan. 12 in Addison! Here, you can burn calories and then be treated to a free stack of pancakes from Denny’s afterward as a reward for a job well done.
The event begins and ends at the Addison Conference and Theatre Centre, located at 15650 Addison Road in Addison. From there, participants can either run on the 5k, the 10k or the fun run trail, where they will have the chance to see some of the many wonderful parts of Town including the Addison Bridge, air fields and Addison Circle.
At approximately 3.1 miles long, the 5k race starts and ends on Addison Circle Road. Start by turning left onto Addison Road and then right onto Arapaho Road. From there, you will make a U-turn just before reaching Business Avenue and coming all the way back to the starting point. Challenge yourself even more by signing up for the 10k race instead, which is 6.2 miles long and also starts and ends on Addison Circle Road. At first, the 10k runners will follow the same course as the 5k runners. However, instead of stopping when you get to Addison Circle Road, make a second U-turn and run the 5k course again, finishing where you began.
After you cross the finish line, celebrate by attending the after party! You can change into your long-sleeved Hotcake Hustle shirt, put your pancake-inspired finishers medal on around your neck and sip hot cocoa or coffee from your collectible coffee mug—all of which are included in the cost of registration. From there, warm up with the indoor party featuring DJ Dame, where you can meet sponsors and vendors, sip on a free Hoist Rapid Hydration sports drink, beer or Truly Spiked sparkling water (for those 21-years-old and older). Finally, don’t forget the main attraction: pancakes! Get your free stack of Denny’s pancakes, loaded with butter and syrup, or sign up for the fun pancake eating contest! Either way, enjoy them—you deserve it!
Prior to the race, there are several locations in Plano, Dallas and Fort Worth to pick up your race day packet. If you can’t make one of these, then packet pickup is available on race day at the Addison Conference Centre, beginning at 6:30 a.m. From there, the Fun Run will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the 5k and 10k at 8:30 a.m. The after party begins at 9 a.m. and ends with an awards ceremony at 10 a.m., where awards will be given to the top three overall male and female racers, the first overall masters male and female, and the top three male and female finishers in a variety of age categories.

Groups of four or more who want to run in the 5k or 10k will receive $5 off per person. In addition, a $10 discount will be applied at check-out for participants 12 and under for the 5k or 10k. Want to support this event but can’t make it to the actual race? Sign up as a virtual runner for $45, which includes a shirt and finisher’s mug that will be mailed out the week of Jan. 15.
