The total population of McAdendville, according to the 2010 census, is 651. But each year, visitors from all over the country come to visit this little town to experience Christmas.

According to The McAdenville Economic Development and Community Enrichment Plan website, “It all started in 1956, when the McAdenville Men’s Club conceived the idea of using red, white and green lights to decorate nine trees around the McAdenville Community Center. Mr. and Mrs. Pharr loved the idea and began the tradition of support for this beautiful example of bringing light into a dark world. The tradition grew and today 375 trees and nearly all the community homes are alit in spectacular fashion with the same red, white and green lights! It is a sight to behold for the 600,000 annual visitors, both young and young at heart that walk along the wreath-lined route through the center of town. A unique Christmas tradition that has spanned more six decades.”

The festivities begin on the first of December with a tree lighting ceremony, a visit from Santa and the Yule Log Parade. Throughout the Christmas season, there are a number of different events like the Christmas Town 5K and music by area schools and church choirs.

They have just been named on the list of the Best Public Holiday Lighting Display in the country for 2018l It’s no wonder why they made the list. The town has over 160 decorated homes, 265 Evergreens covered with more than 500,000 red, white and green lights and beautifully decorated common areas throughout the town.
