Folds of Honor Event Recap

On Wednesday, September 26, 2018, Addison Kaboom Town, Tom Thumb, and Albertsons presented a Folds of Honor check of $195, 515.33 at Addison Town Hall. From June 17 through July 7, Albertsons and Tom Thumb stores collected donations from generous shoppers for the Folds of Honor scholarship fund. This fund helps and supports military families by providing them with educational scholarships to spouses and children of military men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation. This year, the recipients were the family of U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant, Horacio Menchaca, who died in 2017. His family included his wife Priscilla and their children, Annali, Mauricio, and Eva and two of his children received the Folds of Honor scholarship. Speakers at the event included Sarah Duncan, Folds of Honor Regional Development Officer, Addison Deputy Major Pro Tim Tom Braun, and Carol Roberts, Community Relations & Partnership Manager for Albertsons and Tom Thumb.

A 501©(3) nonprofit organization, Folds of Honor provides educational support to children and spouses of America’s disabled and fallen service members. The scholarships provide private education tuition and tutoring support for children in K-12, as well as higher education tuitions assistance for spouses and dependents. Since its inception in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard who served three tours of duty in Iraq, Folds of Honor has awarded more than 20,000 scholarships in all 50 states and the Virgin Islands, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
