There is no better time to adopt a furry new member of the family than February, and Operation Kindness in Carrollton has many adorable animals available for adoption right now. Here are two pets that you can take home with you today!
First, meet Little Ann. Little Ann is a 1-1/2 year old Lacey German Shepherd who weighs about 50lbs.
“You can tell by her big smile that she’s a delightful girl and ready for a new adventure,” said Lynn Handley, Marketing Director for Operation Kindness. “She’s the perfect companion for outdoor walkers and joggers. She loves to play fetch then curl up with her human on the couch watching TV. Little Ann would do best in a relationship that doesn’t include other animals. According to her previous owners, she is house trained and working on her sitting command.”
If you haven’t fallen in love with Little Ann yet, then you may be a cat person. That’s okay too, because Cecil is also available at Operation Kindness. He is an eight-year-old domestic short hair cat.
“Our Animal Care staff think Cecil is the best cat in the shelter!” said Handley. “He does his best to impress everyone by being calm and gentle when humans hug him. He passed the doggy intro test and simply purred as if to say, ‘Yes, I am the greatest!’ Cecil is ready to be in is own home lounging on the back of a sofa or in his own person’s lap, whiling away the hours.”
But before you adopt, there are some things you need to consider. These are the top adoption tips you need to think about before you make your decision, courtesy of Operation Kindness!
Depending on your personality, consider whether you want active or sedate pets. The most important thing to remember is that not all dogs like to run and that cats need exercise, too. Research specific breeds and their energy levels ahead of time to make sure your needs match the animals.
Take time to decide. The cutest puppy around may not be best for you or your family. When you are at Operation Kindness, take some time and walk the dog you’re considering in their 4-1/2 acre park, or hang out with the cats in the indoor/outdoor catio first. Make sure you feel comfortable before taking a pet home.
Puppies and kittens don’t have manners…yet. These adorable animals have lots of energy and no social skills at first. Remember that bathroom accidents will happen inside. If you want a pet who has already mastered key skills, consider adopting an older cat or dog.
