Festival season is here! The weather is nice and people are going outside to celebrate, dance, eat great food and have fun. If you want to experience a festival this spring, there is no better place to go then Miami to celebrate one of the largest festivals in the world — the Calle Ocho Festival!
The 39th Annual Calle Ocho Festival will be held on March 13 this year, from 10am to 7pm, and is located on the Miami’s legendary 8th street (or Calle Ocho) in Little Havana. This is a huge street festival that brings about one million people in from all over the world every year to celebrate Hispanic cultures from around the world. A 19-block strip comes alive with Latin Salsa music and hip-hop, street performers, many dedicated stages for performances, street dancers, impromptu conga lines and more.
Of course, if dancing with a million people or watching amazing street and stage performances isn’t your thing, than there is always the food. In Addison, we love our Mexican food, and you can get your fill of spicy food while you are here. There are hundreds of food kiosks at Calle Ocho, where you can get authentic Latin food or choose from one of many international booths.
Calle Ocho is only one part out of the larger Carnaval Miami, which takes place from now until March 26. This Carnaval is a series of Latin cultural events, such as Carnaval on the Mile, Latin Jazz, a beauty pageant to crown Miss Carnaval, a cooking contest, a 10k run, a Golf Classic, a soccer tournament and a domino tournament.
All of this entertainment is possible because of the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana, which reaches the lives of many under served children every year. Simply put, celebrating at the Carnaval and at Calle Oche actually helps raise money for a good cause. Now there is no way you could turn down a chance to go to this exciting fiesta.
