The next installment at WaterTower Theatre is about to begin and, like always, this one is sure to impress. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer begins its run this Friday, Jan. 24, and will run through Feb. 16. Based off Mark Twain’s famous novel, this brand new adaptation by Laura Eason is the regional premiere of the play, which is complete with another great cast at WaterTower Theatre.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer takes place in Missouri and follows Tom and his boyhood friend Huck around on a series of adventures and mischief. The WaterTower Theatre play is directed by Emily Scott Banks along with assistant director Kelsey Leigh Ervi, stage manager Caron Grant, assistant stage manager Kristin Van Sickle, and dramaturg Vicki Cheatwood. Other important crew members to note include set design by Michael Sullivan, costume design by Robin Armstrong, lighting design by Dan Schoedel, and properties design by Charles Wallace.
The cast of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer include Andrews Cope as Tom Sawyer, Tabitha Ray as Becky Thatcher, Garret Storms as Huckleberry Finn, Jake Buchanan as Joe Harper, Jeff Wittekiend as Sid Sawyer, Van Quattro as Injun Joe, Nancy Sherrard as Aunty Polly and Widow Douglas, and Tom Lenaghen as Muff Potter. This amazing cast will be sure to impress and keep you entertained throughout Tom’s mischief.
The official opening night of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer will be Jan. 27 at WaterTower Theatre. There will be three preview dates this weekend with shows Jan. 24 and 25 at 8 p.m. and Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Single tickets for the play are available for $22-$40 per show and $20 for preview tickets.
WaterTower Theatre has also announced that The Adventures of Tom Sawyer will also be partnered with the Tom Sawyer Project, involving local high school students in their own production of the play. The Tom Sawyer Project cast will be comprised of students from W.T. White High School, Booker T. Washing Performing Arts High School and homeschooled students. The student production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer will be held on Feb. 4 and 11 at WaterTower Theatre. Tickets are $10 in advance or pay what you can at the door.
