Nearly 26 million people in the U.S. have diabetes. That’s why its important to recognize the American Diabetes Association and all the great work they do in stopping diabetes and improving the lives of people suffering with diabetes.
The American Diabetes Association is having its Seventh Annual World Diabetes Luncheon. Although the event does not occur until November 14, 2013, the association has announced their award winners. The two awards announced were the McGarry Awards and the Sylvia and Gary Luskey Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award. These prestigious awards are given to corporations or individuals who support the Association’s mission to “prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.”
This year, Ron Anderson, M.D., M.P.H is the honoree of the J. Denis McGarry: Outstanding Healthcare Professional / Community Advocate award. Dr. Anderson has exemplified the five core values of the American Diabetes Association, which are approach, integrity, ownership, leadership and inclusion. Not only that but Dr. Anderson has shown incredible generosity as he has pioneered for healthcare for the undeserved.

Amy Schornick has worked to bring American Diabetes Programs like Living Empowered, Project Power, Feria and Step Out to the community. Amy, along with the rest of the Texas Health Resources has made significant achievements in working towards curing diabetes.
