The leaves start to change color in the fall, and your wardrobe and beauty products should change shades, as well.

Fall 2013 promises to bring adventurous colors and fun charms to our keratin-packed finger attributes. Here are five of the top nail trends inspired by the fall runway shows you should indulge in this season.

3D Accents

You’ve already seen this nail trend on the rich and famous—from Rihanna to Jennifer Lawrence. They can be pearls, studs, crystals, or even lace appliqué, as seen on Hougton’s models on the runway. 3D accents add texture, flair and design that plain nail polish cannot achieve on its own. To try this adventurous look, head to Zen Nails & Spa in the Addison Walk Shopping Center to select the design and number of nails you want 3D accents on ($10-$30, prices vary).

Talk about a color that makes a statement—and not only by its name. Oxblood is a dark shade of red, also called chianti by some, that contains brown and purple undertones. Models from Noon by Noor, Dannijo, and Cynthia Rowley completed their look with this rich, deep color on their nails. Slather layers of Deborah Lippman Dark Side of the Moon ($17, Neiman’s) on your nails to take a walk on the wild side.

Black Half-Moons

Creative play with black nail polish was a popular nail trend on the runway. We think La Perla did it right, painting a small half-moon on the base of each nail. This is a look that not only looks chic and edgy, but is totally office-friendly. First, use a flesh tone, like Dior Vernis Nail Lacquer in Safari Beige ($24, Sephora at Willow Bend) and apply M.A.C. Nocturnelle ($16, M.A.C. inside Macy’s Galleria) to paint an alluring semi-circle.

Metallic colors are shades derived from the precious metals and alloys in the natural world. The colors can be lustrous and sparkling or muted and matte. Graphite polish was showcased at Joanna Mastroianni, and silver hues were seen at J. JS Lee. For a gorgeous metallic gold, try Yves Saint Laurent’s Dore Orfevere, available at Neiman’s for $25. If you want a playful purple metallic color, try Deborah Lippmann’s Nail Lacquer in Private Dancer ($19, Neiman’s) that will create a “true mirrored, chrome-like finish.”

Pitch Black

Remember when black polish became the “it” color in 2007? Well, seeing that Fendi, Kaelen and Karen Walker all featured models with black digits, it’s safe to say that black is truly back. For a shiny black, try Yves Saint Laurent La Laque Couture Nail Lacquer in Noir Primitif ($25, Nordstrom Galleria). For an edgier look, polish with Sephora by OPI in What’s a Tire Jack? Matte ($9.50, Sephora Willow Bend) for a cool, lusterless finish.

Now that you know what nail trends are hot this season, your hands will be as stylish as the runway.
