Style Savants

0811_Style SavantsThe North Dallas Corridor is home to some sharp dressers who simply “get” fashion. We decided it was time to celebrate those individuals and show our readers that fashion can be done simply and easily in day-to-day life.

VINCENT HAVARD

How would you describe your personal style?

Very European-looking. I always have a very narrow cut. I’m not a big guy so I have to keep a straight line. I like a classic look. Solid gray, black and white.

Who or what has been your personal style inspiration?

I’ve always been following the trends. I look at magazines and see what’s new. That doesn’t mean I’m going to follow it 100 percent, but I get my inspiration from new designers, especially European ones. I work at Mercy Wine Bar, so it’s a very classy, sexy atmosphere, so you have to represent the place where you work.

What article of clothing or accessory do you feel most uncomfortable without?

My rings. If I don’t have my two thumb rings, I feel awkward, like something is missing. Clothing-wise, I love my suits. I cannot go to work if I don’t have a suit on and I feel awkward if I don’t have a jacket on. And I need the shoes to go with it.

ANITA BRAUN

How would you describe your personal style?

Clean and classic. I like clean lines and solid colors. Not a lot of ruffles or frills! I like to mix things up. I rarely buy an “outfit,” but rather find pieces that I think are interesting and try to put them together in a unique way.

Where is your favorite place to shop?

I love to shop in at Nordstrom or Saks. I don’t really like to shop, per se, but love to be able to stop in at one of the large department stores without going through the mall. I love the one-on-one customer service I get at these two stores when I need it.

Who or what has been your personal style inspiration?

Is it cliché to say Audrey Hepburn in her early films like Roman Holiday, Funny Face, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s?  I love her style, and would love to look like that!!

STEVE CAMERON

How would you describe your personal style?

I think a lot of it goes back to my college days. When you’re younger, you want to conform, so I did that preppy thing. Once I got out of college and started looking back, I wanted to blaze my own trail professionally – which I did – and then I decided that if I could do it professionally, I could carry it over to what I wear.

Where is your favorite place to shop? Why?

Sebastian’s Closet. They have the best men’s clothes in Dallas, bar none. It fits my style more than any other place, and Tim (the owner) is probably the best buyer in Dallas. I don’t shop anywhere else – there’s no point.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I’m a closet singer. I have a karaoke machine at home. I like blues music, but for some reason when I get on the machine, I like to sing Willie Nelson—as in, I like to sing his voice. I’ve always liked that. Even when I was younger, me and my buddies would sit in my Grand Wagoneer and, after a couple of beers, I would get that Willie voice going and crack everyone up.

LYNNE STEWART

How would you describe your personal style?

I am drawn to a classic style because of the simplicity and chic-ness. I build my wardrobe around neutrals such as black, gray, navy blue and beige. Clean, straight lines dominate my closet. I prefer to keep my outfit simple and have colorful and bold accessories.

Where is your favorite place to shop? Why?

The boutique L’Image Salon always has fashion-forward accessories that are one-of-a-kind. They are helpful and are always in the know of what is “in and will last.” They have great quality at a wonderful price. I also enjoy shopping at Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom for classic clothing.

Who or what has been your personal style inspiration?

Coco Chanel. She was chic and on the cutting edge. The clothes she created changed the way women looked and how they looked at themselves.

JOE CHOW

How would you describe your personal style?

My style is conservative, yet fashionable.

Where is your favorite place to shop? Why?

SH•OP in Addison Walk. I can find a variety of suits, shirts and ties that fit me well there.

Who or what has been your personal style inspiration?

The “007” movie actor, Roger Moore.

What article of clothing or accessory do you feel most uncomfortable without?

Socks.

HEATHER CAPPS

How would you describe your personal style?

Casual and comfortable, yet polished. I love skirts and dresses with flow and movement. Anything that reflects my down-to-earth, but creative style.

Where is your favorite place to shop? Why?

I love this online store called Soft Surroundings, Anne Taylor, Chicos – any place that has pants in tall sizes since I am 5’ 11’’.

Who or what has been your personal style inspiration?

I love to follow interior design trends. I bring this into my work as a Creative Director at HCK2 Partners and also find it makes its way intomy wardrobe.

What article of clothing or accessory do you feel most uncomfortable without?

Jewelry – I ALWAYS have on one or two pieces to bring my outfit together and to add a little “bling.”

MAURICE GILBERT

How would you describe your personal style?

I dress mostly casual in jeans, knit shirts and cotton shirts, but I always have a jacket or sweater because I get cold in air-conditioned spaces. I do like dressing up for dinner and concerts. I’m always looking for opportunities to wear some of my more formal clothes, like suits with ties.

Where is your favorite place to shop? Why?

I shop exclusively at Sebastian’s Closet. Tim Leamy, the owner, does everything for me. He lays out all the options on a table and I just chose which ones I want. It cannot be any easier for me. Tim takes a very personal approach to providing great service. He knows what I own and what else may be appropriate for my wardrobe.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I think most people would not suspect I played ice hockey up until a few years ago, because of my size (5’9” and 155 pounds). Hockey can be a very rough sport, but I grew up in Detroit and I love the speed of the game.

MAUREEN ANDERSON

How would you describe your personal style?

My personal look is stylish and smart, but I also dress to my size.

Who or what has been your personal style inspiration?

Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I’m a ballroom dancer.
